Saint John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church is sponsoring an Icon Writing (painting) Workshop for adults and accompanied children over the age of twelve. Participants are not required to have prior experience and varying levels of ability will be accommodated. The workshop will be led by Very Rev. Father Elias Rafaj, pastor of St. John Chrysostom Church. Fr. Elias has been writing icons as well as teaching the Theology of Icons for over 20 years.
The theme of this year’s workshop is the “The Holy Trinity” and participants may choose between two icons: "The Old Testament Trinity" and “The Hospitality of Abraham.” Fr. Elias will guide the participants step-by-step in the process of tracing the proto-type, painting the face and features, and applying the gold. All needed supplies will be provided (the gessoed board, brushes, acrylic paints, 23 kt gold, etc.) Discussion on the Theology of Icons will be woven into the class time.
Participants are encouraged to attend for as much of the scheduled time as they are able, but please contact Fr. Elias to discuss schedule conflicts. The total cost, including the deposit, is $225 ($100 for children ages 12-18 who have an adult accompanying them at the workshop). Refreshments and coffee/tea will be available.
Pre-registration is necessary and closes on July 15. Space is limited.
A deposit of $100 ($50 for accompanied children) is required.
