The word catechesis is from the Greek word to “sound in the ears”. Catechesis is a fundamental and systematic presentation of the Church’s teaching. It is an extension of the Church’s mission to preach and to witness to the Gospel. The purpose of catechesis is to deepen the faith of believers.
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (John 20: 30-31)
Adult Catechesis, then, is not a theology course or an academic program of education, but instruction in the faith drawing on Apostolic Tradition and Sacred Scripture under the guidance of the Church’s Magisterium (teaching authority).
